How Permanent Outdoor Lighting Holds Up to Florida Weather
Published October 3, 2026 · Tropical Paralights
Florida homes face conditions that are tougher on outdoor electronics than much of the country: intense sun, high humidity, daily summer rain and hurricane season. If you are considering permanent outdoor lighting, it is smart to understand how a system is built to handle that environment.
Start with the light housings. Ask whether the fixtures are rated for outdoor and wet locations, and what their ingress protection (IP) rating is. Higher ratings indicate better resistance to dust and water.
Next, ask about mounting. Quality permanent lighting usually sits in a low-profile channel attached to the fascia or under the eave, which helps shield the lights from direct rain and sun and keeps the system looking tidy.
Connections and power matter just as much. Ask where the controller and power supply will live, how connections are sealed, and how the system is protected from surges.
Finally, ask what happens if something needs attention after a storm. A clear support process and warranty give you peace of mind long after installation day.
